TRF Ruck Run 2024 Header

Overview

TriCord Ranch Foundation held its inaugural event, TriCord Ruck & Run on April 13, 2024 to bring awareness and support to Oklahomans whose lives have been effected by trauma and PTSD. All funds raised at that day go directly to provide life-changing services for military personnel, veterans, first responders, at-risk youth, young first offenders and their families who reside in Oklahoma. Located at Lake Stanley Draper Lake, TriCord Ruck & Run 2024 offered distances of 10K and 5K, and an untimed 1 mile fun ruck/run along Draper Point West Lookout. In addition to the 75 race participants, we had two food trucks and 11 vendors at the event.

What is Rucking?

Rucking is the action of walking or running with weight on your back. Walking with a weighted rucksack (aka backpack) is a low impact exercise based on military training workouts. Rucking is a great balance between the enjoyment of hiking and the fitness benefits of running. Wearing a weighted pack or weighted vest adds resistance, which will help you get fitter and stronger. But you control the pace, which means you can keep going for longer! *Participants will need to bring their own rucks/backpacks with whatever weight is comfortable to you.

New to rucking...how much weight should you use? Suggested weight for people who have never rucked before is 5-10lbs added to your pack. According to GoRuck, adults under 150lbs may use 20-30lbs, adults over 150lbs may use 30-40lbs. As with any other exercise, you should consult your primary care physician prior to starting a new workout regiment.

Course Description

This boot-camp inspired walk/run follows the moderately challenging trail on the west access "road" that borders the edge of Lake Draper. The dirt trail is mostly shaded and travels through a forested area with possible water challenges on parts of the trail depending on weather conditions. Participants are encouraged to wear ruck sacks, but its not a requirement. It takes an average of 1.25 hours to complete the standard 10K run.
